Everything a young learner needs

Each Kural is a short lesson: see it, hear it, say it, and understand it.

  • Ten Kurals a day

One chapter (அதிகாரம்) each day. Finish today’s ten and the next chapter opens tomorrow. Unfinished days simply carry over.

  • Listen in Tamil

Hear each Kural and its meaning read aloud, at a gentle pace for young ears.

  • Speak it and play it back

Your child records themselves saying the Kural, sees a match score, and listens back to check their pronunciation.

  • Meanings in Tamil and English

Every Kural has Kalaignar’s Tamil urai, an English meaning and G. U. Pope’s verse translation.

  • Stars, points and progress

Rate how well each Kural was understood, earn 15 points per Kural, save favourites, and search all 1330 by word or number.

  • A friendly leaderboard

Learners can choose to join with a nickname and see how they rank. Only the nickname and points are ever shown.

A few minutes every day

A simple routine turns each short verse into a lasting lesson.

  1. Read and listen

Open today’s chapter. Read the Kural, tap Listen, and go through the meaning in Tamil and English.

  2. Say it aloud

Record it in Speak It, check the match score and play the recording back. Try again as often as you like.

  3. Mark it learned

After all ten, celebrate and come back tomorrow for the next chapter. After all 1330, a fresh round begins.

Questions from parents

Does my child need an account?

No. All 1330 Kurals and every learning feature work without signing in. An account is optional and only backs up progress and lets you join the leaderboard.

What does the leaderboard show about my child?

Only a nickname you choose, their points and how many Kurals they have learned. Joining is optional, and real names and email addresses are never shown.

Where do the meanings come from?

Tamil meanings are from Kalaignar M. Karunanidhi’s Thirukkural urai, which the Government of Tamil Nadu has nationalised. English meanings are the 1886 translations by W. H. Drew, J. Lazarus and G. U. Pope. The first ten Kurals also have explanations written for children.

Why only ten Kurals a day?

Each day is one chapter (அதிகாரம்) of ten Kurals. Small daily steps build a habit and help children remember. The next chapter opens the day after today’s ten are learned.

What happens after all 1330 Kurals?

The next day a new round starts from Kural 1, so children can learn them all again. Points from earlier rounds are kept.

Are voice recordings kept?

Recordings stay on the device so your child can play them back, and the previous recording is deleted when a new one starts. They are not uploaded.
